Stklm :: Day 4

59h27m Time to leave. We pack all our stuff and have breakfast while deciding on what to do this morning. The flight departs early in the afternoon, so we have a few hours left in the city, or better, in Kista, the place where I studied and worked. As we walk to the underground station we wonder when we will be back to Lappis again.
60h29m Kista is the epicentre of R&D in the Stockholm area. It’s also known as the Wireless Valley. They claim it has the highest density of companies and employees in Europe. Nice to be here again. Not for long though. The buses to the airport are not as frequent as we expected, so we have to return to Cityterminalen and take the train there.
65h05m On the way to Arlanda we are quiet and reflective. I become so lost in thought that I forget my Swedish souvenirs and jumper in the Arlanda Express. A good excuse for spending some more money at the airport. Never mind.

Stklm :: Day 3

36h04m Once again, we have breakfast in the garden, this time with freshly baked croissants from ICA. On the way to the underground we observe that some peculiar neighbors have moved to Lappis since the last time we lived here: cows. Paco, a friend from Seville, is dancing in one of the opening performances for the biggest -and first- Nordic Flamenco Festival. Soon after the stage is open to the crowd, Sabine and Rafa encourage themselves to give it a try. We prefer to stay with the audience, particularly when we notice that only women are dancing (Rafa being the exception).
40h00m Larry Ellison’s ‘Rising Sun’ yacht is docked in front of the Grand Hôtel. Although this time it should be called Petit Hôtel, so as to honor the boat, the fourth largest of its kind in the world. Once in Djurgården, we pop in the Nordiska Museet, where I finally manage to get a Dalarna Horse.
44h50m We have a well deserved 30-minute siesta by the harbor and then take a ferry to Slussen. Pondering the alternatives reveals that the best option for dinner is a vegetarian barbecue at Lappis beach, as in the old times. Sabine and Rafa don’t seem to bother about the freezing cold water and go for a swim. As Alberto joins us, we enjoy the food under a colorful rainbow.
48h24m Following the tradition, we finish the day with a drink downtown. This time at an Irish pub close to Stureplan. Live music and nice atmosphere. The perfect way to end the week. And the holiday.

Stklm :: Day 2

12h59m No need for more than 5 hours sleep. We’re anxious for the sightseeing and so we eagerly wake up and have some typical Swedish breakfast… outdoors. Quite opportunely, Pierre has wakened up 1 hour before us and brought all our belongings from the train station (I owe you one!).
15h25m Nästa: a nice morning walk across the wonderful Gamla Stan, where we see -among others- Mårten Trotzigs Gränd, the narrowest street in Stockholm. As we pass in front of Chokladkoppen we quietly think we would happily have a second breakfast, if it was not because there are so many things to see and so little time.
16h55m We continue our stroll through Södermalm and enjoy the superb views from Monteliusvägen, overlooking the city hall and Riddarholmen. It’s time to have a quick lunch, so we stop by a food store and get some fruit. Rafa and I are tempted to take a shot of a packet of Mammas Köttbullars, and so we convince Pierre to pose with us.
26h18m It starts showering and getting more and more cloudier. But we know the weather won’t stop us, even if it eventually pours down. After sheltering for a few minutes at a 7eleven, and having the indispensable kanelbulle, we go home and enjoy a delicious dinner by Sabine & Rafaello’s. Back in the city, we have a pint of lager and dance to the rhythm of Latin vibes at Södra Teatern. It doesn’t matter if we are knackered tomorrow.
