Because for the suicide terrorist, as for any fanatic, it does not matter if many innocents fall in the great salvation crusade to which they feel committed. What really matters is the end of the battle: a world purified of corrupts, infidels, sacrileges, degenerates, in which only the community of true believers will reign. This is an even wilder utopia compared to those that have filled Humanity’s history with corpses. The hundreds or thousands of active or potential “martyrs” under the service of Ben Laden and Al Qaeda and other Islamic fundamentalist sects can cause many more slaughters, with no doubt, and this fight will perhaps cover the whole XXI century with a large cloak of terror, but the certain fact is that they will never overthrow a government or take politic power in any country -now more than ever- and their only foreseeable future is to continue in the semi-secret under which they now operate, being periodically hit and dismantled.
