Silence, why won’t you listen?

Silence, like a whisper
Maybe tomorrow it won’t be here
So tomorrow we could teach them
Some new styles
You’re such a killer
So shoot me down again
It won’t hurt when the killing is done by a friend

Silence, like a whisper
So this is all we need
The fully air conditioned sound of speed
A violent whisper
And this time it’s for real
So this day I made plans for us to leave

Silence, why won’t you listen
Maybe it’s just me
but sometimes it’s impossible to breathe
A violent whisper
Maybe this time it won’t heal
Maybe this time it will bleed until I’m free

Hull City strikes back

More than a year ago, I wrote about my first time in a football stadium. I’ve become sort of a Hull City supporter since then (went to see Luton-Hull last weekend). I say sort of because I’m not a big football fan. Anyway… last year the team moved up from division 4. They’re now at the top of division 3, so they might well move to division 2 at the end of this season.

Basic Geography. Anyone?

This weekend I’ve installed Solaris 9 in my laptop. I was pretty astonished when, as part of the language configuration process, I found the Spanish locales within North America (see above). While, one could argue that Mexico is certainly there, no option was shown for this language for South America or Western Europe (see below). Luckily, the guys at Sun have corrected this slip in Solaris 10 which is, by the way, worth a try.

Happy -chinese- new year!

The Chinese New Year starts today. You’ll strut into the so called year of the rooster full of fat plans and confidence. You’ve earned that winning streak with good, solid work and kindness to mates ‘n’ family. But be warned. Although the rooster year blesses you with the chance to shine, it won’t tolerate big-headedness. So stick to that humble, helpful way of yours. It’s what you do best. Hot tip: If it’s not broken, why fix it?

If you don’t believe in Astrology, like me, you’d rather focus on the big celebrations planned for next weekend.

Saif Saaeed Shaheen

Have you ever heard of Saif Saaeed Shaheen? In August 2003 he won Qatar’s first ever gold medal at the world athletics championships in the 3000 meters steeplechase. The weird thing is that two months prior to that his name was Stephen Cherono and he was competing for his native country Kenya. Even weirder is the fact that in the final he was racing against his brother who was still running for Kenya. Weirdest of it all is the fact that Saif/Stephen did not move (in fact we don’t think he has moved) to Qatar out of love or fear. He simply changed nationality to make money. His new country promised him a monthly salary of a little more than $1,000 – for life. There are rumors that Qatar also paid a transfer fee to the Kenyan Athletics Federation.
