Flamenco Festival London

The first time I saw a live Flamenco show was in September 2003. Sara Baras was performing Mariana Pineda, a show based on the works of Spanish poet Federico García Lorca. The show was so fantastic I’ve been looking forward to repeating the Flamenco experience again.

Last week I went to see Eva Yerbabuena, as part of London’s Flamenco Festival. I’ve seen her before in an Imax movie. Song, dance, guitar and lyrical poetry are unified in a pure and unconcessionary form, maintaining the original rhythms and lines of flamenco in a stunning example of traditional dance.

The Bigger Picture

Graham Norton is one of my favorite British comedians. Yesterday I saw the recording of one of his TV shows for BBC1 at the London Studios. It was quite an experience.

Karaoke Capitalism

The difference between the genetic code of one person and another is less than 0.0003% - hard to believe when looking at Arnold Schwarzenegger alongside British comedian Rowan Atkinson. In a world dominated by individuals and market forces such differences are amplified. IQ may only account for less than one tenth of the variance in most studies on what determines the success of people, but it still separates.
