Unfair trading

The Euro is such a benefit for those of us who frequently travel around the continent… I understand some countries have special affection to their past and want to keep their own currency. No problem so far.

What I do not understand is why on Earth some entities insist on making unfair profit from something as simple as currency exchange. This is especially true in England, where my bank’s currency exchange commission is as high as 2.75%. To illustrate this, for every 100€ I send from my bank account in Spain the bank here in the UK keeps almost 3€, not including the fees for receiving an international order (ha!).

I have never seen such astronomical fees anywhere in the continent. My bank in Spain charges nothing for sending Euro transfers to any country in the EU. And 0.2% for currency exchange. Yeah, that’s ten times less than the equivalent in the UK. Amazing.

Basically, some banks here in the UK charge you for breathing.

Javea, Benidorm, Alicante & Torrevieja

An update of last summer holidays…

Javea had by far the most attractive beach we visited in the province. A bit too touristy maybe. But not as crowded as Benidorm, which I didn’t like very much. Alicante was unexpectedly relaxing and offered an impressive night life. And, finally, Torrevieja, where we tasted the best vegetarian food in the province.
Don’t miss the photos!

Tuned in to some odd radio stations while driving around (e.g. coast.fm, Radio Suecia). Typical.

Forget everything you thought you knew about Che Guevara. - TimeOut London

I’ve been lucky enough to watch The Motorcycle Diaries at an awesome alternative cinema close to home. Once again, an Argentinian movie that surprises me. It is about Che’s youth and his fantastic trip through the south-american continent.

I am now eager to enjoy the 48th edition of London’s Film Festival later this year…
